Alongside our ongoing refurbishment, we’re proposing a new 330,000 sq ft Leisure Hall. Housed within an elegant glass roof, the Leisure Hall will integrate with the existing centre to create a new, multi-level, landscaped mall with high quality indoor and outdoor spaces for events and community use.

Our proposals would create 540 new jobs to deliver the scheme and up to 1,400 jobs in the local economy once the Leisure Hall opens. We submitted a planning application to Sheffield City Council in November 2016. If the application is granted planning approval, we hope to start on site during 2018 and open the Leisure Hall to visitors in 2021.

Meadowhall has a wide ranging and growing retail offer but our visitors tell us that they do not just want a great place to shop, they want more options where they can relax, enjoy a meal with family and friends, or do fun activities alongside some retail therapy. Our proposals for the Leisure Hall will enable us to provide a range of leisure options which can compete with other major shopping centres across the country, and make sure that Meadowhall remains a UK leading shopping destination.

The Leisure Hall will include:

New places to eat and drink, including a café court and dining areas, hosting premium and UK leading brand names

An open air roof terrace that will allow visitors to dine outside at Meadowhall for the first time

A state-of-the-art multiscreen cinema to replace the old multiplex in the OASIS

Other leisure facilities such as bowling, table tennis, clip and climb, urban golf could be included

A small food store

The proposed leisure extension is part of our ongoing plan to improve Meadowhall, making it a more enjoyable experience for visitors by providing more options for leisure activities, eating and drinking.

We are already investing £60m in a refurbishment of the existing malls to bring Meadowhall up to date with the demands of modern shoppers.

Together, the improvements to the centre and leisure extension will boost Sheffield’s already attractive offer to shoppers and visitors, retaining spend within the city and creating new jobs.

A successful Meadowhall means a successful Sheffield. Together with proposals for a new retail core in Sheffield city centre, a revitalised Meadowhall will continue to complement the City Centre’s own unique offer and promote Sheffield as a top class retail and leisure destination.
